Microsoft Ends Free Update for Windows 11 with Old Windows 7 and Windows 8 Keys (0x803fa067)
Microsoft officially confirmed that it is ending a free installation path (loophole) Update for Windows 11 using old activation keys from Windows 7 and Windows 8. So you’ll have to buy a legit Windows 11 key by going to the Store and purchasing a genuine copy of Windows 11.
Microsoft initially unveiled the changes to prevent Windows 7 and Windows 8 keys from activating Windows 11 late last month. However, at that time, these keys were still successfully activating the system, and it remained uncertain when the enforcement of the block would occur.
Microsoft announced that;
“Microsoft's free upgrade offer for Windows 10 / 11 ended July 29, 2016. The installation path to obtain the Windows 7 / 8 free upgrade is now removed as well. Upgrades to Windows 11 from Windows 10 are still free,”
Users who now want to activate Windows 11 with older keys simply get an error message that reads;
“Unable to activate Windows - We can’t activate Windows on this device because you don’t have a valid digital licence or product key,” with error code (0x803fa067)
For those who have already upgraded their machines from Windows 7 or Windows 8 to Windows 11 by using one of these older keys, their activation status won’t change.
